Paula Abdul started out as a cheerleader for the Los Angeles Lakers - Laker Girls and within three months became the head choreographer.It was at a Laker Game in 1984 where a few of The Jacksons noticed her while attending a Los Angeles Laker Game and hired her to choreograph a video for their Victory Album. This lead to more work choreographing Janet Jackson, Prince, George Michael, Duran Duran and many more.
Using $35,000 of her own savings she records demos for her debut album Forever Your Girl which stays on the Billboard chart for 10 weeks and sells over seven million copies. In 1989 she wins an Emmy for her choreography on The Tracey Ullman Show and wins and Emmy in 1990 for her choreography on the American Music Awards. Known for her superior showmanship Paula Abdul is hired as a judge on the reality TV show American Idol along with Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson.
She was known as a kind and sympathetic judge especially when compared to the blunt Simon Cowell. Because of this she considered leaving the show, but ultimately is was Simon Cowell who convinced her to stay on the show.
